Every session takes place in a private treatment room at our Lake Norman clinics in Cornelius, Davidson, and Mooresville, serving men throughout the greater Charlotte area. No referral needed.

What To Expect

We understand that seeking care for pelvic health issues can feel personal or even intimidating. That’s why we prioritize creating a respectful, private, and supportive environment from the very first visit.

Initial Evaluation

Your first visit is a private, one-on-one session with your pelvic health therapist. We start with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, medical history, and goals — no assumptions, no rushing. Your therapist will perform a physical assessment that may include posture, movement, breathing patterns, core function, and, depending on your comfort level and with full consent, an external pelvic floor muscle evaluation. Everything is explained before it happens, and you're in control throughout.

Treatment Plan

After the evaluation, your therapist will build a personalized care plan around your specific needs. This may include:

  • Pelvic floor strengthening or relaxation exercises

  • Bladder and bowel retraining strategies

  • Core stabilization and functional movement training

  • Breathing and coordination techniques

  • Manual therapy for pain and tension

  • Pre- or post-surgical rehab protocols

  • Education on daily habits, activity modification, and long-term management

Ongoing Sessions

Each follow-up session is one-on-one with your therapist, tailored to your progress and comfort level. We track improvements, adjust your plan as needed, and keep things focused on getting you back to your life with confidence and control. We know this is a sensitive area of care — and that's exactly why every session is private, direct, and built around evidence-based solutions.

We know this is a sensitive area of care, and we’re here to support you with empathy, professionalism, and evidence-based solutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

- Is pelvic floor physical therapy just for women? No. Men have a pelvic floor too, and it plays a critical role in bladder control, bowel function, sexual health, and core stability. Pelvic floor dysfunction in men is far more common than most people realize — especially after prostate surgery, with chronic pain conditions, or as part of aging. Physical therapy is one of the most effective, evidence-based treatments available.

- What does a men's pelvic floor therapy session look like? Every session is private and one-on-one. Your therapist will work with you through targeted exercises, manual techniques, and education — all in a private treatment room. There is no group setting and no shared space. Your comfort and dignity are the priority at every step. In many cases, you do not need a referral to begin physical therapy. However, some insurance plans may require one for coverage. Our front office team can help verify benefits and guide you through next steps.

- I'm scheduled for prostate surgery. Should I start therapy before? Yes — and the research supports it. Pre-surgical pelvic floor training (sometimes called "prehab") can significantly improve your recovery outcomes. Learning to activate and control your pelvic floor muscles before surgery gives you a head start on regaining continence afterward. The sooner you start, the better your outcome is likely to be.

- How long does treatment take? It depends on your condition and goals. Some men see significant improvement in 4 to 6 weeks; others with more complex issues may need a longer plan. Your therapist will give you a realistic timeline after your initial evaluation and adjust as you progress.

- Do I need a referral? No. North Carolina allows Direct Access to physical therapy, meaning you can schedule an appointment without a physician referral. Some insurance plans may require one for coverage — our front office team can verify your benefits and walk you through the process.

- Is pelvic floor therapy private? Yes. All pelvic health sessions are conducted one-on-one in a private treatment room to ensure comfort, discretion, and confidentiality.

- Do you accept insurance for pelvic health physical therapy? Yes. Currently Healthy Body Physical Therapy accepts insurance for pelvic health services. Our front office team is happy to verify your specific benefits, explain coverage, and answer any questions.
